The Story of Bottled Water

The Story of Bottled Water, released on March 22, 2010 (World Water Day) employs the Story of Stuff style to tell the story of manufactured demand—how you get Americans to buy more than half a billion bottles of water every week when it already flows from the tap. Over five minutes, the film explores the bottled water industry’s attacks on tap water and its use of seductive, environmental-themed advertising to cover up the mountains of plastic waste it produces.

The film concludes with a call to take back the tap, not only by making a personal commitment to avoid bottled water, but by supporting investments in clean, available pure water for all. Our production partners on the bottled water film include five leading sustainability groups: Corporate Accountability International, Environmental Working Group, Food & Water Watch, Pacific Institute, and Polaris Institute.

Bottled Water vs Tap Water on 20 20

Holding up a bottle of Dasani, Rep. Bart Stupak, D-Mich., scoured the label for information on the source of the water. It doesn’t say anything about sources or anything, does it?” he asked the panel of government and beverage industry experts. “So we don’t know where this water really came from — Nevada, Connecticut, New York or Pennsylvania?” he asked.

The panel agreed. With more Americans turning to bottled pure water believing it safer and healthier than tap water, there are growing concerns over how water is marketed, sourced and tested for safety and purity. Consumption of bottled water in the U.S. has doubled over the past 10 years, according to the Beverage Marketing Corporation.

BioCote on the BBC Breakfast News

Dr Richard Hastings, a resident microbiologist and Technical Director of BioCote Ltd is interviewed on BBC WM radio talking about combatting hospital superbugs with BioCote®‘s silver ion antimicrobial technology. BioCote® protected products show dramatic reductions in bacterial contamination in a UK Nursing home.

During the refurbishment of a Leicester based care home a residence comprising of a bedroom and a bathroom was refitted with a range of BioCote® treated antimicrobial products and another with untreated comparable products to serve as a control. Read more : http://www.lesliewaterworks.com/

BioCote on CNN Domestic

BioCote® Swabs were carried out on a string of ATMs in busy shopping streets found the chip and pin pads were harbouring as many harmful bacteria as nearby public toilets. Scientists took swabs from pin pads on different cash machines used by hundreds of shoppers each day and took them back to a laboratory to develop.

The study revealed the presence of various bacteria on all the objects sampled; these bacteria including enteric coliforms, Pseudomonas and Bacillus.

Dr Richard Hastings, microbiologist for BioCote and Jayna Patel, university science intern who carried out the research, said: ‘We were interested in comparing the levels of bacterial contamination between heavily-used ATM machines and public toilets.

We were surprised by our results because the ATM machines were shown to be heavily contaminated with bacteria; to the same level as the as nearby public toilets. In addition the bacteria we detected on ATMs were similar to those from the toilet, which are well known as causes of common human illnesses. Know more : http://www.lesliewaterworks.com/

Get the most out of coolers and POU devices

In the February issue of WaterTechOnline.com, Jake Mastroianni, Assistant Editor writes about “Money in the Bank”. Insiders expect that selling this equipment will be equivalent to money in the bank. As the growth of POU devices and coolers continue to grow, the market for selling this equipment becomes more competitive and complicated.

Being able to send the right messages to the customer for why these items are effective and innovative becomes very important for the dealer.

Talking to dealers and experts in the water treatment industry, it is apparent that this product category is stable and has a bright future.

However, similar to the selling challenges of other pure water treatment products, for dealers who are trying to get their customers to understand the value of these systems is where it may be a bit tricky.

96.79% Less Bacteria

A recent study done by BioCote®, shows  just how effective BioCote® works!  A 96.79% difference in bacteria between 2 classrooms is a direct result of BioCote® antimicrobial protection that we use on our products which helps reduce the spread of germs in any environment.

From schools, to hospitals, to office environments, products such as Waterlogic’s coolers provides its users with an extra peace of mind that their BioCote® infused products will perform to its best antimicrobial effectiveness.  See the full study: http://www.waterligic.com/media/usa/resources/ClassroomStudywithBioCote.pdf

Carbon Neutral

More and more companies are trying to become “carbon neutral.”  They are measuring their impact on the environment, reducing where they can, and offsetting what remains by investing in projects elsewhere that reduce greenhouse gasses in equal amounts to their own emissions.

A simple way for your own company to do this is to forgo bottled water and invest in a water purification system.  Water filters remove more dangerous contaminants than any other purification method and are uniquely designed to work with municipally treated water.  Leslie WaterWorks® purification systems guarantee the purest, best-tasting drinking water imaginable.

With a two-step Waterlogic® purification process along with proven anti-bacterial BioCote® protection, Leslie WaterWorks® purification  systems are the trusted, environment-friendly source for your drinking water needs.  With no more bottles and no more waste, Leslie WaterWorks® is the future of drinking water for your office.

Switch to a Leslie WaterWorks® system and you’ll be seeing green all around…from reducing environmental waste and your carbon footprint to an immediate return on your investment.  You’ll be doing the right thing…and everybody benefits. Know more : http://www.lesliewaterworks.com/

The Greener Solution to Clean Water

The earth is made up of 70% water, the human body is 80% water.  Majority rules.  Use a Leslie WaterWorks® system and improve the health of both.

A carbon footprint is defined as “a measure of the impact human activities have on the environment in terms of the amount of green house gases produced, measured in units of carbon dioxide.”

These gases, and thus each individual human being, contribute to global warming.  If every person did just one thing to reduce their carbon footprint, the positive impact on the environment would be immense. Know more : http://www.lesliewaterworks.com/lww/going-green/

Silver Ion Technology For BioCote® Antimicrobial Protection

BioCote® antimicrobial protection is based on silver ion technology. This technology, in the form of an additive, is incorporated into products at the time of manufacture and then provides continuous built-in antimicrobial protection for the expected lifetime of the product. In addition, laboratory tests have repeatedly demonstrated the ability of BioCote® protected surfaces to inhibit the growth and formation of moulds and yeast.

All BioCote® protected products are regularly validated and quality control tested to ISO 22196:2007 where applicable, in an independent laboratory. Only products that demonstrate over a 95% reduction in microbes are allowed to use the BioCote® brand as a guarantee of superior antimicrobial performance. Know more : http://www.lesliewaterworks.com/lww/biocote/

BioCote® Antimicrobial Technology by Waterlogic

BioCote® is incorporated into Leslie WaterWorks® Waterlogic® clear water treatment systems during the manufacturing process, creating a concentration of silver ions on the product’s surface. When microbes come into contact with a BioCote® protected surface, the silver binds with the microbes and causes the enzymes to break down.

They cannot produce energy to multiply and growth is inhibited. This built-in anti-microbial protection reduces levels of surface degrading and staining bacteria, mold and fungi by up to 99.9% over a 24-hour period.

POU Water Dispenser

Is the POU Certified? – Most alternatives are not as well certified, possibly because the design may not meet the relevant standards.

Quality of Materials? – Alternatives sometimes use poor, inferior raw materials to cut costs.

Button and Faucet? – Button and faucet are separated with Waterlogic systems. This reduces the risk of contamination of dirty hands touching the water tap (faucet).

Exposed Water Taps? – Exposed taps are a haven for bacteria, and are easily touched by bottles, cups, hands, etc.

Cold Water Tank Sealed? – innowave Cold tank is sealed with UV inside.

BioCote Protection? – Waterlogic exclusively uses BioCote® antimicrobial protection on the external components, as an additional defense mechanism in addition to regular cleaning.

Safety Features? – Waterlogic dispensers include leak detection systems and heat sensors.

Waterlogic Guide to Water Dispensers and Office Coolers

Water is the most consumed food & beverage product. Yet it is the least certified. The meat, seafood, dairy and many of the grocery products we consume are subject to strict food safety guidelines, inspection and standards. Even though the same rigorous controls should be expected of water, a surprising number of under certified, low quality water coolers make it into the market.

A POU water dispenser is not just a glorified water chiller. It should purify your water at the POU (Point of Use) – this requires sophisticated technology and in depth knowledge of your incoming water.

Water borne diseases are normally not evident to the eye. Effects can be long term from lead, chlorine, etc. Each year there were many cases of illnesses caused by drinking contaminated water. Most are minor and go unreported.

Low grade POU (not adequately certified) can even worsen the quality of tap water (sitting in cold tanks without UV purification etc.) The only way to guarantee quality water is to filter and purify at the “Point of Use” (i.e. At the point at which it is dispensed) by using an independently certified, quality POU dispenser. Remember, pure water is a food product SO DRINK CERTIFIED.
